The main topics of discussion were the prospects for expanding the sports cooperation of the Union, holding joint sports events in an open format, the emergence of new opportunities for interaction between sports entities in the field of public-private partnerships, import substitution and investment development.
The speakers were Igor Levitin – Aide to the President of the Russian Federation, Oleg Matytsin – Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, Sergey Tsivilev – Governor of the Kemerovo Region, and Derenik Gabrielyan – Honorary President of the Armenian National Olympic Committee.
If the Olympic Movement collapses, we will turn into regional sports structures.
Vladimir Putin said:
Whatever restrictions are imposed on athletes, we are open, we will not forbid anyone to visit Russia.
Sports should be out of politics. If we are divided, it will mean that the Olympic Charter does not work. We must remain united,” Igor Levitin.
The governor of the Kemerovo region also mentioned the Soviet system of sports in his speech. According to Sergey Tsivilev, this system allowed Kuzbass to become the best sports region in the country in 2021.
We took the Soviet system of training, starting with backyard sports, small venues, and then moving on to large sports arenas. We build facilities in such a way that there are several sports at once — with their own halls, locker rooms, spectators, with good logistics capabilities. According to this principle, the Kuzbass Arena was built. We used modern technology on the old Soviet system. It has already been forgotten, but everyone who used this system achieved success.
Tsivilev said.
The Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin is sure that in the conditions of the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes, the EAEU countries should find more and more opportunities for holding competitions on each other's territories. At the same time, competitions should not be created as an alternative to the International Olympic Committee.
Our aim is to find new ways for our countries to participate in competitions on each other's territory. We are not in favor of creating something alternative to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) or international federations. We are looking for new competition opportunities for our athletes. We have a positive experience — the first games of the CIS countries in Kazan.
Honorary President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Derenik Gabrielyan addressed the IOC President Thomas Bach directly from the rostrum of the forum “Russia is a sports power” with a demand to change the position on Russian athletes.
Gabrielyan concluded.I propose, on behalf of the sports participants, to turn to the IOC Executive Committee and its President Thomas Bach with a request to consider several issues: the first is to change the position of the IOC on sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes, to change decisions. Wisely and carefully approach the removal of boxing, restore boxing in the Olympic movement. I want to end my speech with wise words: if there is a disease, then there is a cure. I am convinced that the main means is sports outside of politics and peace on earth.
