My name is Gennady Marichev. I have been doing Olympic research for over 50 years. My research is not limited to the Olympic Games, but includes everything related to the concept of Olympism, the Olympic movement. These are the Olympic Charter, the International Olympic Committee, and various events of the International Olympic Committee — congresses, executive committees, sessions and much, much more.
I can confidently (I am constantly studying the state of affairs in the history of the Olympic movement in the world) no one is doing this to such an extent.
Those who explore the Olympic world are limited to the Olympic Games. You can easily verify this: type in Google for a search two words — «Olympic movement». In response to your request, you will receive millions of files titled “Olympic Games”...

I am a member of the International Society of Olympic Historians. Has been awarded several times by various organizations. At the same time, I consider the most valuable award of the Latvian Academy of Sciences. Why? Many years of research have shown that the most important thing can be the recognition of professional historians. Unfortunately, there are no professionals in the International Society of Olympic Historians — this is a group of amateur enthusiasts. For the sake of fairness, I will inform you that the International Society of Olympic Historians awarded me the highest award — Demetrius Vikelas Plaque. Finally, since 2000, I have been a public adviser to the President of the Latvian Olympic Committee on history issues. Now that you have gotten to know me a little, let us return to the topics of my lectures.
Preamble
The Tokyo Olympic Games are approaching. They will take place not on the traditional, previously set date, but a year later. Moreover, the postponement of the Olympic Games due to a pandemic is an unprecedented event. Three times, in 1916, 1940, 1944, the Olympic Games were not held. But the reason for this was the war.
Let's go back to Tokyo. Tokyo is an unlucky city. The capital of Japan has applied to host the Olympic Games six times, but only two have been successful. In three cases — 1940, 1964 and 2020, the capital of Japan won, but in 1940 the Games were prevented by the war. In 2020 — the epidemic of the coronavirus.
Will the postponed Games take place in 2021 or not ???
The torch relay is already in full swing. The Japanese, hiding under masks, welcome her. But nothing is clear yet. The authorities report on the full readiness of the Olympic facilities. At the same time, hundreds of thousands of Japanese are voting to cancel the Olympic Games; the coronavirus is rampant in many countries around the world.

Nevertheless, given that before the Olympic Games are approaching, interest in the Olympic movement always rises sharply, I would like to conduct a certain conditional «course of lectures». In it, the number of my publications has not yet been determined (it all depends on your interest, your activity). In them I would like to tell not only about the Olympic Games, but also about what usually remains behind the scenes: the activities of the International Olympic Committee, its leaders; I will devote much attention to topical issues of the Olympic movement, sensations, corruption, etc...
In general, I will let you be bored.
It would seem that one should start with ancient Greece, the origin of the Olympic Games, their holding, the heroes of ancient stadiums. But ... let's jump to the late 19th — early 20th centuries and talk about the main document of the modern Olympic movement — the Olympic Charter. This will come in handy for our listeners later.
