Maxim Gritchenko is the official representative of the DTF — the first fully Digital Taekwondo Federation.
Can you please tell our readers what a digital federation is?
The entire history of human civilization can be conditionally divided into pre-industrial, industrial and post-industrial periods. Each period differs from the previous one very significantly, even though during the transformation one can observe the presence of both outgoing and incoming elements. This is what we are seeing now. Speaking about sports, it can be stated that there were no sports federations in the pre-industrial period — the first sports federations began to appear only at the end of the 19th century. In the post-industrial period, all spheres of human activity will change and sports will not be an exception — sports federations will inevitably transform into digital platforms. This is exactly what we are doing now – we are building a sports federation in the form of a digital platform. The DTF is the first fully Digital Taekwondo Federation.
How exactly does a digital federation differ from a classical federation?
There are many differences, and they are all fundamental. The first main difference is the new post-industrial philosophy of sport. We follow the principle that you need to win yourself, not others! The industrial sport declared that it is necessary to win others, and this was always the root of many conflicts! DTF calls not to pay too much attention to others, but to do your own self-improvement! The place taken in the DTF tournament depends on the Performance Quality Coefficient (PQC) that the participant managed to demonstrate. This allows you to assess the level of skill more accurately, as well as the dynamics of its change! Moreover, we strive to eliminate subjectivity in sports refereeing. After some time, the definition of the PQC will be carried out by the algorithm trained by us. There will be no refereeing errors related to the fact that the sports referee accidentally or intentionally did not notice something. In addition, all DTF tournaments are held online — you can participate from anywhere in the world, at a convenient time. No need to spend a lot of time and money on moving, no need to build expensive sports facilities. DTF also initially refused of paper documents — tournament participants receive diplomas in electronic form. Of course, it can be printed, but why? A digital diploma can always be demonstrated on a smartphone, you can post it on a social network — it will not be deteriorated, it will not be lost, and it also saves a lot of paper and paints.
What is the future of digital federations?
The future always wins over the past. There is an expression: "2030 will surprise us in the same way that the guy from 1750 would be surprised by our 2018." Indeed, a guy from the 1750 pre-industrial year would be very surprised by the modern FIFA World Cup. Probably, 2030 (post-industrial) year will really surprise us a lot. We in DTF see the future like this: Morning. The human woke up, stretched, got up. He turned on the smartphone, pointed it at himself, the pleasant voice of the assistant asked — will we practice? Yes. The voice assistant gives hints, the person performs movements, AI evaluates them and helps to correct mistakes. Today your PQC has exceeded 50 – should you send an application for certification (assignment of a category)? Yes. Thank you, your application has been sent. After a few seconds — Your application is approved, pay? Yes. Thank you, your application has been paid. After a few seconds — you have been assigned the eighth DTF geup, print out the certificate? No, better post it on social media. Done, want to take part in the online tournament? Not yet, I’ll have to work on it.
Is the project unique or did you use foreign experience?
Perhaps something similar is being developed somewhere.
As they say, a unique project often looks like a submarine, which is seen twice — before sailing and when it already arrives at the place. So far, we have not seen anything similar to DTF in sports. Sports federations, of course, introduce individual digital elements into their activities, but it's like converting a wooden cart into a car. It is easier to create something new than to remake something old. For the success of any startup, it is necessary to collect three elements — information, energy and matter. We have already collected two elements. Information is ideas, rules. Matter is content. It remains to add Energy — development, distribution.
The interview was prepared on April 11, the birthday of Taekwondo.
