British Paralympic Association (BPA) gold partner Hogan Lovells has launched a bursary programme that aims to support 10 athletes in their preparations for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

The latest round of the Nicholas Cheffings Para Athlete Bursary is open to Paralympians and aspiring Paralympians recognised by the BPA and their national governing body, with funds to be used to assist with their sporting development, for example on equipment, travel to training camps and competitions, and additional coaching and training.

Applications are open until November 28, with the 10 winners set to be announced by January 10 2023.

Penny Angell, the United Kingdom managing partner at the global law firm, welcomed the launch of the funding round.

We are proud to be strong supporters of the BPA and its vision, through sport, to inspire a better world for disabled people.

Angell said.

We look forward to receiving new applications and supporting the next cohort of Paralympians and aspiring Paralympians on their sporting journeys.

Paris is set to host the Paralympics for the first time in 2024

Emma Wiggs, one of the 2022 recipients and a two-time canoe gold medallist at the Paralympics, praised Hogan Lovells for its support.

The support of Hogan Lovells is absolutely crucial to those of us that are working at this competitive level.

She commented.

I’m so grateful to Hogan Lovells, not only for the bursary but for their positive impact and commitment to changing people’s perception of disability across the world.

Hogan Lovells has worked with the BPA since the Beijing 2008 Paralympics.

Britain finished second on the medals table at five of the last six Paralympic Games, including Tokyo 2020 where the nation won 41 gold medals, 38 silver and 45 bronze.

Paris is due to host the Paralympics for the first time from August 28 to September 8 2024.

Все это лишь еще раз доказывает, что спорт должен оставаться вне политики. К сожалению, чаще всего это просто слова.
